Welcome to our website, an online source of information about the Institute on Aging & Department of Aging and Geriatric Research  with the University of Florida's College of Medicine.

Mission Statement

The Institute on Aging and Department of Aging exist to improve the health, independence and quality of life of older adults by means of interdisciplinary teams in the areas of research, education and health care.

Overarching Goals

The overarching goals of the Department and Institute are:

  • To develop an interdisciplinary and dynamic research that spans public health, social, health services, behavioral, clinical and basic sciences. Our research focuses on mechanisms, etiology, prevention and rehabilitation of cognitive and physical disability. We also focus on maximizing the participation and life potential of older adults with disability and prevention of secondary disabilities.
  • To develop and provide educational programs for undergraduate, graduate, professional and post-graduate trainees in an integrated model of care and research.
  • To provide state-of-the-art comprehensive patient & community-centered care for older adults that is grounded in respect and understanding and fosters compassion and effective communication for patients, populations and families.
